Hello, I’m Matt Strong.
I grew up in Romford, a suburban market town east of London, a place of routines & a bad rep. I’ve always been drawn elsewhere.
Travel became my escape, not to run from where I’m from, but to understand the World beyond it. Travel became my way out — a way to step beyond the grey, relentless rhythm of the city and into something unfamiliar, human, and alive.
I move through places with a camera in my hand. My parents put one in my hands when I was young & showed me how to see through it & it’s never really left my side. The same camera still travels with me today, carrying years of quiet observations.
I photograph what unfolds rather than what is staged. The spaces between destinations. The unnoticed gestures. The fleeting moments that disappear if you don’t stop long enough to see them, fragments of lives, light, & chance encounters, gathered across continents.
My work lives somewhere between street & documentary photography. I’m less interested in postcards & landmarks, & more in the unnoticed details — more a record of human presence & passing time. The poetry of everyday life. I don’t think of myself as a traditional photographer, but rather someone documenting the movement & stillness of a location.
This website will be a living archive. A library of my work from the mid 90s to the present day, that grows with every journey, every return & every pause.
If my work resonates with you & you’d like to collaborate or commission a shoot, feel free to get in touch.
Thanks for being here, it means a lot.
Matt
